First Past the Post

Hello formidable, daunting world wide web universe,

Gen and I have begun a blog.

Despite our tendency towards the ceremonial, this decision was made with limited fanfare and quite spontaneously (over skype while watching march madness no less). As someone, who still doesn't understand what twitter is, let me assure you, this decision was not taken lightly. First, considering all of the other, arguably more legitimate, responsibilities in our daily lives these days, this idea may or may not be a less than subtle procrastination mechanism. Secondly, clearly, there's the risk that this is a novelty experience that will play out with high output only lasting several weeks before a slow death. Yet, in the face of these doubts, we lightly concluded that, right now it "sounds fun" and better yet it means that Gen can put drafting cover letters on hold and Nadia can stop taking notes on the link between women property rights and HIV/AIDs.

Following our bold step forward, we then spent an hour discussing blog titles before settling on the above. Blog Built for Two may seem lacking but our other ideas included such gems as "Blogeo and Juliette," "bLog Love Cabin," "Genaissance Man," and "Couples Exchange" (suggested by Gen - which I thought sounded like a swinger's site).

Title set, albeit reluctantly, we then considered content. We didn't get far because I got very confused about formatting and somehow did something so convoluted while trying to set a watermark that google froze our blog and made me call a special service number to confirm my identity. This does not bode well.

Regardless, as things now stand, we're still figuring out WHAT exactly we're going to write about and setting ground rules. For instance, we had to mutually promise to limit excess writing on certain topics (e.g. Kansas City Royals can not be blogged about with elevated frequency and despite the fact that the televised version of Game of Thrones is shortly commencing, this cannot be turned into a sci-fi/fantasy fiction discussion board) and agreed that this will not be about our personal lives (despite Gen's affinity for waxing on poetically about me). All in all, we see Blog Built for Two as a forum for sharing with each other and with our friends and families musings, photos, articles, information, the occasional cute baby animal pic, Nadia's super cool stata class assignments, urban hiking tips, Watson anecdotes, demo derby play by play recaps, etc.

Enjoy!
